Democrats take the birther fight right to the GOP’s doorstep; a loon opens the door
UPDATE: I erroneously reported that Congresswoman Bachmann blocked the resolution. It did indeed pass yesterday, after the quorum, with the congresswoman supporting it.
This is getting really good. On Monday democrats in the house, specifically Neil Abercrombie (D-HI), introduced legislation to recognize Hawaii’s 50th anniversary of statehood. They also took this opportunity to proclaim that Hawaii was the birthplace of president Barack Obama. As the resolution was about to pass, it was suddenly blocked. By whom you ask?
None other than my favorite member of congress Michelle Bachmann (R-MN). Try to contain your surprise. Watch the clip below:
Democrats seem to be laying a trap for republicans by forcing this “birther” issue to the floor of the house. Congresswoman Bachmann, of her own volition, seemingly fell right into it. I’m not sure if her political viability was helped by her new alliance with the radical fringe of her party. Then again, she’s pretty fringe anyway so it doesn’t matter.
